    According to the noted historian Sriram, AVADI cannot be an acronym for Armoured Vehicles and Ammunition Depot of India. He claims to have noticed the place 'Avadi' in a gazette of the 1880s. He also adds Defence establishments started only in the 1940. Hence the acronym need not be correct. The place must have been a huge cow shelter or a goshala (Aavu (Aa = Cow )+ Chavadi = Avadi the most probable portmanteau!
