FROM THE INDIAN HISTORY - Thandam means the weapon used by Lord Yamah. When Yamah was about to kill Markkandeya, he put the rope to the neck of Maarkkandeya, as Maarkkandeya was holding Lord Shiva, it fall on shiva. Lord shiva got angry, so the Thandam fell on this place. Latter Lord Yamah did pooja and got back his Thandam. So this place is called Thandeeswarar. (named after Lord Shiva). This kulam-pond is the place where he got back thandam.

Very true my friend ,this is one of the oldest TELC church in that area with a lot of familial connections to me too,in its centenary hall my grand uncle (Rev.Pitchai)photo is hung, this is the church which sent forth a lot many christian leaders like Joshua Daniel of LEF fame. This is a iconic building on Tana st as long as i can remember,i liked the tapestry on the entrance of Christ in the Garden of getsthamane very nice and the sing song liturgy of the high Lutheran worship, till today many of my relatives attend service there, long live lutheranism !!

"AD AL DITTORA"- Higher and higher was the motto of my alma-mater as i remember singing the school anthem every morning in the late 70's to early 80's of my school yrs right from kindergarden to high school, the uniform was khaki with leaf green tie and black shoes, yes mr.rathinaswamy was the h.m,mr devadoss his 1st asst, followed by mrs.saras and my father who taught there till 1977,beautiful place full of memories and friends many of whom i still see here in canada to this day including Divy -the h.m's son and felix of maddox st,athol fernandez, percy franscis, john thomas, joshy thomas, many of the salai st gang is in Australia, newzealand,a lot of this school's alumini forms a global diaspora of josephian's true to its motto, nice to share this thought.

Hey !! That's my old church in Madras,we used to attend services there in the 60/70-80's,good old place full of childhood memories of past VBS's and afternoons of fun and laughter, yes indeed it has scottish origins when you see the inscriptions on the Chalice light hanging at the center of the altar with its distinctive Red chimeney glass!we cleaned it in 1975 VBS as students! This church has a rich history of societal members scattered across the globe, many a times I still visit this place of Happiness in my mind sitting here in N.A.One day I shall visit this shrine of childhood memories, maybe i'll see some old members like prem anna or selvaraj uncle,my hearty greetings to the present day st.Andrews youth fellowship.God Bless. p.a.j.- Canada.
